Mary Best was raised in Whitney Pier and has seen first hand how valuable the Whitney Pier Youth Club has been to the community over the past three decades. She currently works as a Case Manager at the YMCA of Cape Breton's employment services centre in Glace Bay and teaches accessible yoga in her spare time. She is also working on finishing a degree at York University in Gender and Women's Studies, looking at how systemic oppression is experienced and how it can be addressed.

When not focused on work, or school she makes things – painting, sculpture, and tending to an urban garden. She looks forward to using her experience to benefit the Club and the community moving forward.
