BGCCB Recipient of Cape Breton Eagles Holiday Toy & Food Drive

On November 28th, 2020 the Cape Breton Eagles held a toy and food drive outside Centre 200 between 11am-3pm.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Cape Breton was one of three lucky recipients of the toy and food drive and we are so grateful to Colbourne Chrysler, Colbourne Ford & The Eagles for including us as one of their charities of choice this year.

Changes to the annual toy & food drive

The Eagles have been doing a food/toy drive for 10+years inside the arena with collections usually taking place during home games in December

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this year is the first time it was opened it up to the community outside the arena.

"Usually we complete the collections at a couple of our home games in December but with COVID in our midst we were forced to rethink how we made it work. We were thrilled with this year’s turn out and we think the toy drive-thru may become an annual tradition."

- Courtney Schriver-Richard

Eagles representative Courtney Schriver-Richard, shared that this was the most successful toy & food drive to date, with over 700 toys and 50 full large boxes of food received this year. She also stated how grateful the team was to the estimated 300-400 members of our community helped them achieve that goal.

Chosen Charities

The goal of the Cape Breton Eagles is to make a large impact on multiple charities throughout the community.

This years charities were Boys and Girls Club of Cape Breton, Cape Breton Transition House, and Every Woman’s Centre. Courtney Schriver-Richard, General Manager, Business Operations told us that the size of the charity has no impact on their decision making, and the goal of The Eagles is to distribute the toys and food to as many organizations as they can, to make the biggest impact on our community.

"The Cape Breton Eagles would like to thank our extended community for making The Colbourne Auto Toy Drive Thru the most successful of its kind for our organization. The well-being of our community is-and continues to be a key part of our identity and that will never change. We look forward to making it even larger in 2021!"

- Courtney Schriver-Richard

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Cape Breton is so grateful to have been included as part of this wonderful initiative and are thrilled to be able to share these amazing donations with our member families.
