Who remembers going to the library, grabbing a book and getting lost in the pages for hours? At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cape Breton we believe in teaching our youth the importance of reading, and how they can benefit from going to the library!
Our club is so lucky to have McConnell Library just a short distance away, and a bus to take 24 youth there every week. With today's technology, sometimes we forget that there are still people writing books, painting, and making music. Taking part in this program allows our youth to approach literacy directly - not just through a computer screen. Our library visits encourage the youth to think, talk and learn about history, art, poetry and other cultures.
Sometimes we forget what an asset it is to have a library as a resource for our community. At the Boys and Girls Club we encourage our youth to grab a book, get lost in the pages and learn something new!
