Whitney Pier Youth Club making plans for expansion

The Cape Breton Post published this article on the plans for the club's expansion project in May of 2014:

An expansion project with an estimated cost of $350,000 is no small feat for a non-profit registered charity to take on and, much like the adage that it takes a community to raise a child, it’s going to take a community to build the addition to the club.

Local contractor Scott Mombourquette is helping to lead the expansion plans. Borden noted they’ve managed to obtain pledges of lots of in-kind support — the trades programs at the Marconi Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College have offered their assistance, parents of children who go to the club who work as labourers in Fort McMurray have offered to help and a number of local businesspeople have also said they will lend a hand “It’s a community build, that will cut down on labour costs,” Borden said, adding that in-kind assistance is expected to cut as much as $100,000 from the cost of the project.
