literacy program

Children do not naturally develop the ability to read and spell. These skills need to be explicitly taught. Many children have fallen behind in reading because they are missing the ability to link graphemes (letters)  with their corresponding phonemes (sounds). These skills provide the foundation for being able to decode (read) and encode (spell) text.  We focus on explicitly teaching our participants these connections using reading, spelling, moveable alphabet, kinetic sand and clay. The children experience all of their senses which is beneficial for supporting all learning styles.

Each student is assessed, so we then know what area they are having difficulty with and can begin there, and each lesson builds on the student's progress during their last lesson with lots of repetition so that we can meet the needs of each individual child.

The aim of our program is to provide intervention to support all students who are struggling and those who are just starting to learn to read so that they can have a strong start and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
